- meet in Siracusa (or wherever you are based) and drive to Linguaglossa
- stop for some of the best almond pastry in Sicily and a granita before our walk
- walk through several lava flows, as recent as 2002 and dating back as far as at least 1911
- enjoy the spectacular ascent to the Monte Nero, including the moonlike craters left by ‘lava bombs’
- have a picnic (included) with local products
- (optional – shorter loop from here possible) visit the amazing Grotta dei Lamponi, one of the longest ‘lava tubes’ around Etna
- observe the amazing shape of the rocks at Passo dei Dammusi
- walk back along the wider Pista Altamontana, enjoying an amazing view of the North Valley and the surrounding towns and hills
You may either want to drive back to Siracusa (etc.), or stop again in Linguaglossa for coffee, granita, or to visit an organic, family-run winery (additional fee), to fully enjoy the volcanic flavour even in their delicious Etna rosso/bianco.
